Mutsuki is the Japanese word for February, when written in kanji it means 'month of love'.
Higanbana is the common name for lycoris radiata, also known as the red spider lily.
The oldest of the Higanbana sisters, a kunoichi of Konohagakure, and a member of the village's ANBU corps.

Mutsuki is a young woman of average height with fair skin, icy blue eyes, and loose black hair that falls to her chest. Her forehead is covered by curtain bangs with a single lock separating and falling between her eyes. A large pinkish burn scar covers the right side of Mutsuki's face, spanning from her hairline to her jaw. The contracted skin tugs the right corner of her lips upwards and resulted in ptosis, making Mutsuki unable to fully open her right eye. Her eyelashes are said to resemble a spider's legs. She has a healthy amount of muscle on her body but is slowly becoming underweight.
Mutsuki is often completely still, standing with her shoulders hunched and gaze watching everything in sight.
She cares little for fashion and appearances. Her primary outfit is a flak vest worn over a black t-shirt and trousers with black gloves and white bandages covering her arms.
Many who have met Mutsuki make note of the fact that her eyes appear to have nothing behind them.

Mutsuki was once a compassionate and optimistic young girl who was eager to help others and whose Nindō was to help those who can't help themselves. Though she quickly realized that being a shinobi wasn't as glamorous as she thought it would be, Mutsuki still remained optimistic and believed she would be able to make the world a better place.
The tragic loss of her sensei seemed to break something within Mutsuki; she began to isolate herself from the world and threw herself into training and going out on missions. She was so busy that she didn't have time to grieve, which was what she wanted at the time, believing it'd be easier to bury all her feelings.
As time went by, Mutsuki would grow disillusioned with the world. It grew harder and harder to believe that she was worthy of a better life, leading to her becoming the person she is today.
She's cynical and nihilistic and willing to let herself die if it means the mission is completed. Nothing matters but giving her sisters a kinder world, one that was ripped away from her when she was too young.
Despite her reputation as an ice queen, rage boils beneath Mutsuki's flesh. She's angry at the man who wiped out an entire clan in one night, leaving only one survivor. She's angry at the world that keeps destroying everything she loves and cares about. She's angry at the system that's responsible for so much needless death and suffering.

Mutsuki's goal is to eliminate her opponent as quickly and efficiently as possible, only leaving them alive when she needs information or the mission specifies as much. She is stealthy when tracking her targets, and utterly brutal in direct confrontation.
A strategist through and through. Mutsuki often knows what her team is going to do without them saying it. She is efficient, playing to her teammate's strengths.
Mutsuki is much more brutal without backup, as she's fighting for survival.
Infiltration and poison expertise
Mutsuki learned very basic medical ninjutsu as a child. At the time she wanted to keep herself and her teammates safe. Now as ANBU she appreciates its ability to cause harm and prolong suffering when misused.
Her killing intent is incredibly potent, described as being cold and oppressive and sticking with people for hours afterwards.
