Classifications & statuses
Roles and statuses alongside rank. Barrier, sealing, and communications units are organizational assignments—not personal “classes” every shinobi carries.
Structure (canon)
A shinobi is described by rank (e.g. Genin, Chūnin), role or status (e.g. Medical-nin, Sensor Type), and assignment (e.g. ANBU, Barrier Team). Kekkei genkai and chakra nature are separate—not “classifications” in this sense.
Fanon & OCs on this site
Characters on the dashboard may use the canon types above or fanon labels from the fanon registry. Browse published fan classifications — or add labels via Submit fanon classification. Entries you add are listed in the registry for use on OCs. If a canon type is missing from this wiki page, ask a moderator to add it (do not add canon types through the fanon form).
Medical-nin
Japanese: 医療忍 / 医療忍者 · Romaji: Iryō-nin / Iryō-ninja
Canon specialists in medical treatment and healing. Traits: precise chakra control and anatomical knowledge. They heal during and after missions and support long operations; under Tsunade’s system, medical-nin are trained to prioritize survival so they can keep supporting teams.
Sensor Type
Japanese: 感知タイプ · Romaji: Kanchi Taipu
Detects others by sensing chakra, often at range—identifying signatures, spotting concealed enemies. Strong for reconnaissance and battlefield awareness.
Hunter-nin
Japanese: 追い忍 · Romaji: Oi-nin
Canon tracking/elimination role tied to Kirigakure’s hunter-nin corps: hunt missing-nin, destroy evidence to protect village secrets, limit intelligence leaks. Prefer this over a vague “tracker ninja” label.
Typical tasks: track rogue ninja; eliminate targets; dispose of remains when required.
Missing-nin
Japanese: 抜け忍 · Romaji: Nuke-nin
Shinobi who leave the village with no intent to return—listed in bingo books, hunted by hunter-nin or others, often carrying sensitive intel. A legal and political status, not a rank or job class.
ANBU
Japanese: 暗部 · Romaji: Anbu
Elite covert operatives under the Kage: assassination, interrogation, protection, and black ops. ANBU is a classification / assignment here, not a ninja rank — pair it with an actual rank (e.g. Jōnin) on the OC form.
Organizational teams & support functions
Canon wartime and village support assignments (not a universal class system). Details per team below.
Barrier Team
Japanese: 結界班 · Romaji: Kekkai-han
Konoha and Kumo field named barrier teams: maintain barriers, detect intruders, village-wide sensory coverage, early warning—usually stationed, not general field deployment.
Sealing Team
Japanese: 封印班 · Romaji: Fūin-han
Sealing specialists in joint operations (e.g. Allied Shinobi Forces): restrain targets, seal entities or heavy chakra, support large battles.
Communications Team
Japanese: 連絡班 · Romaji: Renraku-han
Relay orders and battlefield updates, coordinate units over distance, keep divisions linked—critical in large-scale and wartime operations.
