Suzaku Clan

A small but well-respected clan residing within Konoha who are best known for their long tradition of bird keeping and for possessing the Torigan.

Folklore

Due to lackluster record keeping by their ancestors, oral stories becoming warped and forgotten over time, and fractures within the larger clan, there is a startling lack of information on the Suzaku clan's founding and the origin of its Kekkei Genkai, leaving large gaps to be filled with speculation, educated guesses, and rumors.

The commonly accepted story is that the first Suzaku was a — young, old, man, woman, child — named Kiji. Kiji was a wise and merciful person who saw worth in every life on Earth — or perhaps they were a misanthropist who preferred wild animals over their own kind.

One day Kiji would encounter an injured bird, a — stork, pheasant, hawk, owl — that they saved and nursed back to health. Kiji used up their limited medical supplies and food on the injured animal, they stayed awake all day and night, shunning their own health. By the time the bird recovered, — age, an untreated infection — had taken Kiji's eyesight.

The bird took pity on its savior and wished to repay Kiji's generosity and selflessness. It could not give up its own eyes but instead shared its sight with Kiji — or perhaps the bird did gift Kiji its own eyes — allowing them to see once more. The duo would be inseparable companions from that point forward. The bird allowed Kiji to see the world in an all new way, and in return Kiji ensured the bird remained healthy and well-fed.
