Oshira comes from Oshirasama, a Japanese deity often invoked to provide healing to those facing turmoil in their personal lives.
Hyuuga directly translates to 'a sunny place'.
Oshira was a refugee from Uzushiogakure who was married to a member of the Hyuuga clan until her death from a rare illness.

Oshira was said to have been a hidden beauty, the kind of woman capable of turning heads if she weren't so reticent and mopey. She had loose red curls that fell a little past her shoulders and big dark brown eyes that looked black in certain lighting.
While in the Hyuuga compound she spent most of her days in a kimono.

She was a mousey woman, someone who kept her head down to avoid being noticed or scrutinized. Oshira acted as if nothing bothered her, but she was secretly scared of rocking the boat, of upsetting a clan that already saw her as a burden. She didn't speak up or out, didn't defend herself, she simply tried to survive.

Oshira was born in Uzushiogakure. Being a child in a village ravaged by war, both internal and external, was not easy. She would lose both of her parents to conflict by the time she was four, and just two years after that Uzushio would fall, with Oshira being among the refugees who fled to Konoha for safety.
Life in Konoha was safer but not much easier. Oshira struggled to keep her head above water, no-one wanted to hire a girl too sick to perform the most basic jobs. She survived on the kindness of others and by pushing herself past her limits.
At just twenty years old Oshira would fall pregnant after a brief fling with a man named Hikami. He saw it as just a fling, something to entertain him until he found an actual wife. Oshira thought it was something more.
News of the pregnancy eventually made its way back to the Hyuuga clan, to Hikami's family, and they lambasted him for being so stupid, so irresponsible. Still, Oshira's child would have Hyuuga blood, potentially even the Byakugan, and they could not risk their dojutsu falling into the wrong hands.
The two were soon wed and Oshira was moved into the clan compound, where she would give birth to her first and only child; Hotaru.
