Sayaka was born Goshiki Sayaka to two civilian parents, but enrolled in Konoha’s academy as a child regardless. When Uzumaki Kushina transferred, they immediately struck a rivalry, as their similarly hot-headed personalities crashed a lot. However, Sayaka considered her a friend from the start, and was surprised Kushina thought they weren’t friends. She got along well enough with Minato, but shared Kushina’s opinion that he seemed “undependable.”
When they graduated, Sayaka was placed in the same team as Minato and another classmate called Dekai, and they were the “Rookie of the year/Dead last” team of their generation, with Jiraiya as their Jonin sensei.
As teammates, Sayaka got to know Minato better and also realized his feelings for Kushina, so she tried to set them up a million times (to no success. Kushina was absolutely oblivious.) Soon after, the Second Shinobi World War broke out, and Kushina was kidnapped by Kumo nins in the midst of it.
Growing up, she was quite tomboy-ish, to the point that most people struggled to tell whether she was a girl or a boy. Additionally, since she was Kushina’s friend, she also defended her when others badmouthed her, often ending in physical altercations. As a result, she received the nickname “Demon” from her classmates.
When she hit puberty, her body started developing with startling speed, and suddenly all those boys who disliked her for her "unfeminine" and “violent” personality were interested in her, to the point where there were several bets going on to see who would be the one to finally “tame” the demon. Naturally, she beat up those boys, too. Since she’s always favored purple, her nickname morphed into “the Purple Demon of Konoha,” which then spread outside of Konoha.
Several years after the end of the Second Shinobi World War, and as a Jonin already, she’d already garnered international recognition for her mastery of the five basic chakra natures, receiving the nickname “Sayaka of the Five Elements.”
As Minato started to train the Hiraishin no jutsu, she started to develop her own Kekkei Tota, Crystal Release, which she completed during the Third War. Sayaka was stationed in the northernmost battlefield during the war, right on the border with the Land of Lightning, and was the main reason why the Kumo forces had minimal interference in Konoha’s territory. She received the moniker “Sayaka of the Crystal Release” during this time, and even to this day many Kumo nins are intimidated just by hearing her name.
