Yōsei Uzumaki

When Uzushiogakure was destroyed, Yōsei was very young. However she remembers her family, her time in the village - sometimes more, sometimes less - due to her longevity, the Uzumaki do tend to have good memories. They tried to save her by sending her out to sea with a few other young people of the village - by the time she had reached the shores of the Land of Hot Water, she was the only one.

Waru and Misaki happily took Yōsei in, understanding that many in the village found her suspicious. They had been aware of the attack on Uzushio, though as per their village’s customs, they opted out of it. They kept Yōsei’s last name to remind her of her home, though never made her feel like an outsider. Unfortunately, they also became deeply protective - they did not let her train to be a shinobi, not if they didn’t know where the chunin exams could be (if they were outside of the village, there was a chance another village’s shinobi might recognise her lineage and do something drastic).

However, Waru trained Yōsei all the same. She had the capability of being a fine shinobi, and he sometimes thought he had made the wrong decision being too cautious. He did what he could to find fuinjutsu books - even going as far as contacting Mito Uzumaki in secret. Hiruzen and Mito agreed that if Yōsei was happy where she was, they would not force her to move to Konoha, not wanting to traumatise the teenage girl any further. But she learned the Uzumaki way, becoming a formidable and lethal opponent as she didn’t have a team to hold her back from training, or had to rely on anyone; Waru saw her soar, and she quickly became known to do things that some Yu-Nin were reluctant to do.

As far as the Yugakage and the rest were concerned, Yōsei was certified in protecting them. She was ruthless, sometimes known as the only “Hot Steam in the Warm Water”.

During Naruto's training, Jiraiya planned for the two to cross paths - aware of her existence for some time. It didn't go quite as planned: both Uzumaki's resenting the other for different reasons. Naruto wondered why she never sought him out; Yōsei never understood why teaching Naruto what she knew was her responsibility when she lost everything just like him. When naruto and Jiraiya moved on, Jiraiya convinced Yōsei that Naruto did ned her, and to travel to Konoha for when he returned to help him when he'd need it most.
