Although the exact origins of the Haiba clan remain blurry, they rose to prominence during the Warring States Period. They played a key role as messengers, but they were notoriously fickle--they held no particular loyalty to each side. They contributed to the negotiations leading to Konoha's founding and joined the Village shortly after its foundation.
One aspect of the Haiba clan that is unlike most other clans is that it operates on a dual-head basis. Since the members are often absent for long periods of time, they have a main, legal Clan Head (who represents them in front of other clans and society in general) and designate a Shadow Head, who assists them and run the clan in their absence.
