下絵 is translated to mean "sketch". Shitae's mother named him this as it was a fond hobby that she had developed as a child and she had hopes that her son would share an interest in the arts just as she did.
うずまき is translated to mean "spiral" or "whirlpool" - a gentle nod to the place of the Uzumaki clan's origins - Uzushiogakure - the Village Hidden in the Whirlpools.
Shitae is the oldest of eight children. As the oldest, Shitae was expected by his father to be the model that all of his siblings lived up to. If he was told to jump, he would jump. For a time, Shitae did just so - hoping that by appeasing his father he could help prevent future issues that his young siblings might experience. Although kind in theory, Shitae would later realize that he allowed his father to inflict abuse on him to fuel the fear instilled in his siblings. For that, he held deep regret.
Now older, Shitae doesn't stand for abuse or bullies - even amongst family.
