Asriel is a survivor of the Uchiha massacre. As the first in a long time to wield the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, naturally it gave him a reputation.
Ever since the massacre, Asriel dedicated himself to becoming stronger. Not because of anger or revenge, but to ensure nothing like that happens again... Not on his watch.

With his Uzumaki genes and years of training, Asriel can comfortably use his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan while constantly using Ninjutsu.
Asriel can freely adjust the output of his Ninjutsu and apply Chakra reinforcement to tools or hands on the fly.
Asriel was capable of wrestling against the reanimated Third Raikage during the War.
Asriel was capable of moving so fast to the point Madara Uchiha (Jūbi Mode) couldn't properly maintain line of sight.
His constant training with the likes of Yamato, Kakashi Hatake and Rock Lee allowed him to elevate to a level where he could trade blows with them consistently.
Even after becoming a Jōnin, Asriel still sought to learn more. Although his sensei was Yamato, he sought guidance from other Shinobi like Kakashi Hatake and Kurenai Yuhi.
Asriel was considered average in terms of academics, although there were times he surpassed expectations. Some called it flashes of brilliance, where he would randomly find an answer that none of the top students in his class could find. However generally, he was not really considered that intelligent during his time in the Academy, as these moments of genius just show up out of nowhere, at random.
Asriel's teachers considered him above average, but not enough to be called a prodigy or genius. However, the more obsessive Asriel trained to become stronger throughout the years, his mind also got sharper. Being able to create his own unique Jutsu, and managing to figure out how to use the Flying Thunder God Technique effectively. By the time of the Fourth Great Ninja War, he was able to find weaknesses against the reanimated Shinobi, and close out their advantages with his own arsenal.
Asriel doesn't generally enter a fight with a plan. He much prefers making a plan on the fly after grasping his opponent's capability. Once he manages to find a weakness, any form of weakness, he constantly tries to take advantage of it. His usage of Okikaeru makes it easier to exploit, as he uses Chakra-infused Kunai to swap places with and get into unconventional angles near instantaneously.
Asriel never really accepted any leadership roles, making him weak and inexperienced in that field. The last time he took a Leader role was when he was in the Academy, where he was in charge of leading his group to finding paper seals that their teacher scattered across the forest. However they ended up finishing dead last and since then, Asriel never took that kind of role again.
Asriel prefers to capitalize on the smallest openings that his teammates create, allowing him to hit the enemy in unexpected angles or in blindspots.
Asriel first probes how powerful his opponent is before deciding how he should fight against them. Though he knows several Ninjutsu, he only uses 2 for each release he knows. And he has his Shadow Clones use the other Jutsus in his arsenal.
In some extreme cases like his battle against Kinshiki Otsutsuki, he has some Shadow Clones use a different variation of Susano'o.

At the young age of 7 years old, Asriel and his brother had witnessed his mother's death before their eyes from an attack by a Rogue Ninja. This traumatic event turned their 3-Tomoe Sharingan into the Mangekyō Sharingan. After the Uchiha Massacre, Asriel had his brother's Mangekyō Sharingan implanted in his own Mangekyō. Which gave him the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.
Throughout most of his late-teenage years, Asriel dedicated a lot of his time to missions and training. Even consulting other mentors such as Kakashi Hatake and Kurenai Yuhi to help him develop even further. At some point, he even used the Multi-Shadow Clone training technique that he heard of from his own mentor, Yamato. With that kind of training and obsession to become stronger, Asriel further developed his usage of not only his Ninjutsu, but his visual prowess as well. This lead to him unlocking the Armored Susano'o, that carried a spear that could split into two javelins. He trained nonstop, went on missions constantly, pushing himself until he was on the verge of fainting. Which Yamato always saw in Asriel when they first started training. He always wants to get stronger, any chance he gets, even at the expense of his own rest. Saying he can just recover later, and that later soon became never. It was only until Yamato and Kakashi had to tell him to get some rest, that he finally did decide to do so.
Asriel fought in the Fourth Great Ninja War, facing off against threats such as the reanimated Second Mizukage and Third Raikage, where he helped Naruto Uzumaki. He also fought former Akatsuki members, such as Deidara and Sasori, where he used his Susano'o and Shadow Clones to his advantage. That advantage allowed the nearby sealing unit to seal the two. But later in the war, when Might Guy was down from using the 8-Gates, Asriel stepped in to buy extra time for Naruto and Sasuke. Facing against Madara Uchiha, he walked in with full confidence, pushing the Ghost of the Uchiha to a corner with his constant usage of Clones, Okikaeru, Susano'o, Ninjutsu, and at times; Flying Thunder God. However he ends up losing this battle, as Madara took advantage of his Limbo Clones and struck Asriel where he couldn't anticipate it. But even as he lost, he had a smile on his face, knowing the real trouble; Naruto and Sasuke, are back on the field.
As Kaguya Otsutsuki faced off against Naruto and Sasuke within her Lava Dimension, as she paused to gaze at the eyes of Naruto and Sasuke with tears in her eyes. Asriel saw the emotional opening and decided to capitalize on it. Interfering with their battle, Asriel offered Kaguya a deal, where if he were to convince her that Humanity was worth keeping around, she would spare the world. But should he fail, she could take the world as she pleases, and return all chakra to herself. This was a risky move for everybody involved, especially Asriel as he dropped his guard entirely to show Kaguya he had no hostile intent. Black Zetsu immediately tried to intercept that proposal by immediately dismissing it, however Kaguya was not listening to him either. Intrigued but also skeptical, Kaguya paused.. really paused. Before raising her hand and launching an All-Killing Ash Bone towards Asriel, made to purposefully miss, she simply wanted him to react so she has an excuse to keep fighting. But surprisingly, Asriel did nothing, only closed his eyes as the Ash Bones missed him by a centimeter. Seeing how serious, and interesting Asriel was, Kaguya used Ame no Minaka to return herself and the others back to the real world. Team 7's reactions were... mixed to say the least. Even Naruto had doubts, and when asked about this, Asriel simply replied;
"The pros outweigh the cons, at best she fully stands down, at worst we just have to keep fighting"
While he knows deep in his heart that's not the reason he wanted to spare Kaguya. He just doesn't want to condemn someone to an eternity of being sealed, without giving them a proper chance to redeem themself. Even when Naruto's reasoning failed, Asriel didn't believe Kaguya was beyond saving. Enraged, Black Zetsu proceeded to throw insults at not just Asriel, Naruto and Sasuke, but also Kaguya. To which he will find it to be his last mistake, as Kaguya expelled him from her sleeve and immediately killed the Zetsu with an Ash Bone.
After the Fourth Great Ninja War, after the Infinite Tsukuyomi was released, Asriel and Kaguya went on to travel the world for 4 years. Asriel staying true to the deal, he did his very best to try and convince Kaguya that Humanity is worth having around. And while everyone rests, recuperates or atone for their past sins, Asriel carries the weight of the world on his shoulders as every day he will spend for the next few years, will be spent on trying to prove Humanity's worth in the eyes of somebody like Kaguya Otsutsuki.
With Kaguya defecting from the Otsutsuki and choosing to stay on Earth, the threat of the Otsutsuki arrived much earlier. Asriel himself faced off against Kinshiki Otsutsuki, in which after a hard-fought battle where he nearly lost, eventually defeated the Otsutsuki before he could fuse with Momoshiki Otsutsuki who was being dealt with by Naruto and Sasuke.
By the time of the BORUTO Timeline, Asriel had already been married to Kaguya Otsutsuki. The 4 years he spent with her traveling the world, fighting her clan members tooth and nail, and maintaining a proper, but deep connection with her when she decided to stay in the Hidden Leaf Village. All those factors paved the path for peace. With the Otsutsuki threat neutralized years earlier, the newer generation could enjoy their lives more.
During the rest of the end of the War all the way to the Blank Period, Asriel traveled the world with Kaguya, attempting to do as he said he would do. And after 4 years of being out of the Village and showing Kaguya the world, they returned to the Hidden Leaf Village with the Origin of Chakra as its citizen.
2 years before the Boruto timeline, he had married Kaguya Otsutsuki.
They clashed against each other 3 years after the Fourth Great Ninja War. With Kaguya being spared, he and Momoshiki arrive much earlier and attempt to take her chakra and the rest of Humanity's chakra as well. With Asriel battling Kinshiki on his own while Naruto and Sasuke fought Momoshiki; Asriel fought tooth and nail to scrape a victory against Kinshiki.
During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Asriel fought the reanimated Third Raikage alongside Naruto Uzumaki.
Asriel was assigned to Yamato, as his class made the division of students tricky, he had to be Yamato's lone student. Every single day, Asriel and Yamato trained tirelessly, specifically Asriel, always yearning for more, to become stronger. Yamato saw this as an obsession for power, but Asriel made it painfully obvious that this was his coping mechanism for the Uchiha Clan Massacre. Yamato helped Asriel learn majority of the Jutsus he knows, even helping him invent his own jutsu; "Uchiha Style: Dragon Flame Cataclysm". Though Yamato was a good Sensei, Asriel just needed more- WANTED more, so he turned to the one who knows over 1000 Jutsus; Kakashi Hatake.
They first met when Asriel was assigned to assist Team 8 in a mission, as Kurenai Yuhi at that time was on leave due to her pregnancy.
Their main rivalry revolves around pure hand-to-hand combat, in which Asriel pushes himself far in order to match Lee's specialty in the field of Taijutsu. Though he never surpasses Lee's strength in that aspect, the gap between their skill isn't that big either.
The two first met when Asriel was practicing the Flying Thunder God technique just a year before Part II, Asriel sought some feedback from someone of Shikamaru's level of intellect. Though Shikamaru had no real knowledge about the technique, he still tried to help Asriel. Their constant connection gave way to a close friendship between the two outside of training.
Kakashi served as Asriel's mentor during the time between Part I and Part II. Given how Yamato only had a bit of limited knowledge of the techniques Asriel is trying to master such as the Flying Thunder God Technique and the Multi-Shadow Clone Technique. Kakashi stepped in to guide Asriel through those abilities, being the student of the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, Kakashi had a decent idea on how the Flying Thunder God functions, what to do and what he recalls Minato did as well. He also taught Asriel the Lightning Blade, as his Sharingan allowed him to execute it on a much easier scale than others. On top of that, Kakashi also taught Asriel the Lightning Beast Hunting Fang jutsu, just in case he would ever need it.
Tenten was the one who assisted Asriel in mastering different weapons, specifically the Kunai and Shuriken. They first met just 2 years after Asriel became a Chunin, where Tenten helped him use the Kunai and Shuriken in creative ways, be it ranged or close quarters until Asriel became a master at it. This mentor-like relationship eventually developed into a friendship, where the two would hang out often when Asriel didn't have much to do.

-It took Asriel 3 years to convince Kaguya that Humanity was worth keeping. And 1 year to convince her to stay in the Hidden Leaf Village. He eventually marries Kaguya 2 years before the events of the BORUTO Timeline.
-Naruto, Sasuke, Asriel and Kaguya fought Isshiki together when he decided to openly attack them. It was an intense battle, but the combined might of Kaguya's unique abilities, Naruto's adaptability, Sasuke's visual prowess and Asriel's creativity, allowed them to defeat Isshiki.
-Asriel considers his marriage to Kaguya the ultimate win by Indra's descendants over Ashura's descendants.
Asriel is meant to represent a Shinobi that bears Indra's burning personality and need for strength... while having Ashura's soul of empathy and kindness.
